|Yet another warning has been given this month about shisha smoking in public places and the risks associated with smoking shisha pipes in general.
The warning made by a UK charity went into great detail about the numbers of café’s and bars opening up since the 2007 smoking ban was passed.
They estimate shisha café openings have increased by a rate no less than 200%, reaching a total of over 600 licensed lounges across the UK at the time of writing. And while properties and many of the customers argue they conform to UK laws, other people are looking at ways to curb the growth of this pleasure pursuit and eventually hope for an alright ban to the shisha pipe.
The report into shisha also mentioned the increased number of Shisha hire companies that operate in many cities where by you can simply dial a shisha, like you would dial for a pizza or take away. Many concerns have been raised about such service, however so far there is little data on how many people actually dial for shisha, although some initial research shows that there are at least 150 companies (and growing) offering this service.
One of the main points made throughout the warning was about the “unknown dangers” of shisha smoking. The warning stated that the general public seemed unaware or confused about the dangers and more needed to be done by the shisha café and hire companies to display health warnings to their customers while continuing to enforce and comply with age restrictions and the smoking in public places ban.
